The Opportunity
The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for an ongoing Library Assistant within the Parliamentary Library. Library Assistants carry out tasks in many areas of the Parliamentary Library and opportunities exist to undertake a range of duties associated with the provision of services to library clients, including collection management, digitisation, data processing and administration.
The current ongoing opportunity is within the Collection Management team, assisting with routine serials tasks, and maintaining the Library’s physical collection through shelving, weeding and updating loose-leaf services. From this recruitment process the Library will create a merit pool of suitable candidates to fill ongoing and non-ongoing PSL2 positions that might arise over the next 12 months.

Job Specific Requirements:
- The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance.

Duty Statement
Classification: PSL 2
Branch: Library Collections & Databases
Section: Library Collections & Discovery
Immediate supervisor: PSL5 Senior Serials and Acquisitions Officer
Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the PSL 2 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Source and acquire collection resources; 2. Assist with maintaining the Library’s physical collection, including shelving, weeding and updating loose-leaf services; 3. Create or process digital data from print and online sources; 4. Create or amend bibliographic metadata; 5. Liaise with commercial suppliers and clients for the successful delivery of Library products and services; 6. Retrieve archival material from onsite storage; 7. Contribute to corporate activities as required.
Employees of DPS are required to be able, and to be seen to be able, to provide professional advice and services to all Senators and Members without favour or prejudice.

Salary
Currently, the salary range for this position is $63,885 - $68,584 per annum.
Conditions of Employment
Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:
- Australian citizenship – to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
- Security clearance and character clearance – the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
- Health assessment – a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
