  • Part Time Ongoing position based at Sunshine Hospital
  • Work alongside the consumer during their admission and discharge
  • Be an active collaborator, complementing the professional knowledge of clinical staff
SAAPU is a 29-bed unit located at Sunshine Hospital providing acute mental health care to the communities of Brimbank, Melton & Sunbury. As Consumer Peer Support Worker you will work within the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit focussing on supporting the consumer during their admission and contributing to discharge planning. Your new role:
  • Work with current consumers and their families / carers providing peer support post discharge from the inpatient unit.
  • Complete post discharge contact with consumers via phone or face to face meetings in the community
  • Collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team to create the best plan of action for each inpatient
  • Develop, review and provide information resources for consumers and their families
About you:
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to consult, liaise and work collaboratively with consumers, their families / carers and service staff
  • Draw on your own lived / living experience in working alongside consumers
  • Ability to work independently in an organised manner and take direction for daily activities
  • An understanding of current Victorian mental health service systems of service delivery and issues, including clinical and community systems (e.g. MHCSS)
